About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role Anthropic's Business Technology Engineering team builds the systems the company runs on. We own the internal platforms every employee uses and our collaboration tooling, and we embed engineers directly with Legal, Security, Communications, Product Operations and other business functions to rebuild how their work gets done with Claude at the center. Our mandate is to make Anthropic the best-run company in the world at using its own models internally, and to be the example our customers point to. We are hiring an engineering leader to run this org. You will lead a growing engineering organization across two tracks: Platforms , which builds and operates the shared systems the company depends on, and Forward Deployed , which drops into a business function, proves Claude wins on a real workflow, hands off, and moves on. You will partner on defining the roadmap, build relationships with functional leaders, grow the team, and shape what forward deployed engineering looks like inside a frontier AI lab. You'll report to the Head of Business Technology and IT, within the Security organization, and you’ll make up the full Business Technology function along with a team of Business Systems Analysts and Product Managers. Together, BizTech partners closely with IT Engineering on corporate systems and endpoints; with Security Engineering on data handling and permissions for agentic workflows; with Labs and Product on dogfooding and the internal builds that become external patterns; with GTM, who point Enterprise customers at this team as the reference for how Anthropic runs internally; and with the leaders of Legal, Workplace, Communications, Product Operations and Product Support, who are your customers. Responsibilities Lead and scale a global org of engineers; hire, level and develop the leads under you. Partner, develop, and execute a year-plus roadmap for how Anthropic's business functions work with Claude, and the success metrics that go with it. Run the Platforms track: reliability, velocity and scale of Claude Support and the platform layer that every employee depends on. Run the Forward Deployed track: engagement portfolio, prioritization across functions, handoffs to durable owners, and adoption that actually moves. Be the technical executive partner to the leaders of Legal, Workplace, Comms, Product Ops and Product Support; make the case for ambitious deployment and for the boundaries on it in the same conversation. Partner with Labs and Product on dogfooding: feed load-bearing signal back ("here is the eval that shows the gap") and ship internal builds that become external product patterns. Represent how Anthropic runs internally to Enterprise customers alongside GTM. Set the engineering bar: production-adjacent builds, eval rigor, reusable patterns, responsible internal deployment with real data and real permissions. You may be a good fit if you Have 12+ years in software engineering and 6+ years leading engineers, including at least 3 years managing managers and at least one org of 20+ across multiple domains that you structured yourself Have run internal-tools, business-systems or platform engineering at a company that added functions faster than it added engineers, and can speak to reliability outcomes on the platform side and adoption outcomes on the embedded side Lead through technical judgment: whether or not you've been hands-on lately, you can go from an agent architecture to its eval design to its failure modes with your engineers, and your reviews make their builds better Can walk a General Counsel, a Head of Workplace or a room of senior engineers with strong opinions through a trade-off, make a recommendation, and bring them to a decision they'll commit to Can hold a high bar on craft while saying no to low-leverage work, and explain the no to the person who asked. Want real ownership of how a frontier AI lab runs itself on its own models, and care about doing that responsibly — real data, real permissions, real people on the other end Strong candidates may also have Forward deployed, software engineering or applied AI leadership experience with external customers. Product management experience or a track record partnering closely with PMs and analysts. Experience with corporate systems (Salesforce, Workday, Google Workspace, Slack) at platform scale. Have built the career rubric or leveling framework for a new kind of engineering role, or stood up a forward deployed function from zero Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be received on a rolling basis. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $485,000 — $625,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. About the role Anthropic's Tax team is hiring a Tax Director to own the company's global income tax provision and US income tax compliance function. This is a core operational leadership role: you will run the quarterly and annual ASC 740 close, manage the co-sourced compliance program, and build the processes, controls, and team that keep both scaling with the company. What makes this seat unusual is what flows through it. Anthropic is deploying capital into compute and data center infrastructure at a scale and pace with few precedents, alongside an active program of acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic investments — and every one of those transactions lands in the provision and the returns. We prefer candidates who bring familiarity and hands-on experience with complex M&A and infrastructure transactions on top of the core provision and compliance skill set: someone who can own the tax purchase price allocation workpapers, write the technical memo on a novel financing or lease structure, and then carry that answer correctly through the ASC 740 close and into the compliance workstream. Key responsibilities Own the quarterly and annual worldwide income tax provision: current and deferred computations, effective tax rate reconciliation, deferred tax inventory and valuation allowance assessments, stock-based compensation, uncertain tax positions, and return-to-provision true-ups Own the tax journal entries, account reconciliations, income tax footnote and disclosures, and the supporting workpapers and SOX controls; manage the financial statement audit relationship with our Big 4 auditors Coordinate the international components of the provision with the team and outside advisors, and drive continuous improvement in close speed and quality Manage the US federal and state income tax compliance program, working with our co-sourced Big 4 providers: returns, estimated payments and extensions, elections and disclosures, and the compliance calendar Own cash tax forecasting and support tax authority notices, examinations, and audit defense Drive automation and tax technology adoption across the provision and compliance processes, including AI tooling Own tax purchase price allocation workpapers for acquisitions: taxable vs. nontaxable characterization, ASC 805 opening balance sheet deferred taxes, goodwill component analysis, and reconciliation to the tax basis balance sheet — plus tax diligence, structuring, and integration (reorganization qualification, equity compensation in deals, Section 382, transaction costs, stub period returns) Analyze data center and compute infrastructure arrangements — lease classification, sale-leasebacks, Section 467 rent schedules, build-out cost recovery — and the financing structures around them: debt vs. equity characterization, prepayments, vendor financing, warrants and equity instruments in commercial agreements, and joint venture formations and buyouts Prepare and review technical memos documenting positions for auditors and leadership, and model the cash tax and effective tax rate consequences of proposed structures for Corp Dev, Finance, and Legal while deals are being negotiated Mentor and develop tax team members and help build the function as the company grows Manage outside advisors on opinions, studies, and valuations, and own those budgets and relationships Minimum qualifications Have substantial experience managing a corporate tax function in the multinational software and technology industry, including hands-on experience running the income tax provision and compliance processes, with a combination of Big 4 public accounting and in-house tax department experience Have owned the full ASC 740 provision cycle at a multinational company — not just reviewed pieces of it — including deferred taxes, valuation allowance judgments, uncertain tax positions, footnote and disclosures, SOX controls, and auditor management Have managed a US federal and state income tax compliance program at scale, including co-sourced arrangements with Big 4 providers Bring familiarity and hands-on experience with complex M&A transactions — tax purchase price allocations, ASC 805 opening balance sheet accounting, diligence and structuring — and ideally experience with infrastructure leases, build-outs, and the financing arrangements behind them Write clear, well-organized technical memos that hold up with Big 4 auditors, and can explain the same issue in plain terms to non-tax partners Hold a CPA; a Master's in Taxation or LLM is a plus Thrive on novel fact patterns and ambiguity, and default to building the workpaper and writing the position down rather than waiting for a template Preferred qualifications Familiarity and experience with data center or similar capital-intensive infrastructure transactions — hyperscaler-scale compute, energy, or telecom deals, project finance, or joint venture structures Experience analyzing warrants, convertible instruments, or other equity components embedded in commercial and supply agreements, and debt-equity analysis for intercompany and third-party financing An interest in applying AI tools to tax workflows The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. About the role Anthropic’s GSI team partners with the world’s largest Global System Integrators and strategy consultancies to deploy frontier AI into the core of how they deliver client work and run their own businesses. These are complex, partner-led organizations where the first engagement is rarely the full opportunity, and where lasting partnerships are built across practice areas and at the executive level. As an Strategic Account Executive on the GSI team, you’ll own a named book of accounts and the full revenue outcome for each. You’ll develop a point of view on where Claude creates the most value across a firm’s practice areas, advisory services, delivery teams, and internal operations, build relationships with the partners and executives who sponsor transformation at that scale, and expand the partnership well beyond the original buyer. These firms are both customer and future channel — your sell-to motion sets up the sell-with later. You’ll work closely with Product, Applied AI, GTM, and Partnerships leadership to shape how Anthropic shows up across the GSI landscape, while advancing our mission of developing AI that is safe, beneficial, and deployed responsibly. This is a role for someone who has owned large, complex partner-led accounts end to end and is comfortable operating independently at the executive level. Responsibilities Own all revenue outcomes for a named book of GSI accounts, driving both new logo acquisition and multi-practice expansion through complex, multi-quarter sales cycles involving partner-led approval, global procurement, and custom commercial terms Develop a clear thesis for each priority firm — where Claude creates value across knowledge management, advisory workflows, deliverable generation, and client engagements — and execute a sequenced engagement plan across practices, regions, and stakeholders Build and independently advance executive relationships with Managing Partners, Practice Leads, MDs, CIOs, CTOs, and Heads of AI/Digital, anchoring every conversation to their strategic priorities: utilization, leverage, realization, and billable productivity Proactively create demand in unengaged practice areas and regions, using early wins as proof points to open new doors across decentralized, partner-led organizations Build quantified, firm-specific business cases mapped to the GSI operating model — using their own language and metrics — that shape deals rather than justify them after the fact Identify and close lighthouse partnerships that become references across the GSI landscape and set up the future sell-with motion Partner cross-functionally with Product, Applied AI, Engineering, and Partnerships to inform the roadmap based on GSI buyer needs, and contribute to the playbook, proof points, and commercial structures that become the repeatable GSI motion You may be a good fit if you have 8+ years of enterprise software sales experience with a track record of owning named accounts at large, complex, partner-led organizations (global SIs, strategy consultancies), managing multi-quarter sales cycles through technical evaluations, partner-led approval, and global procurement Demonstrated ability to independently build and advance relationships at the Partner, MD, and C-suite level — including practice leadership and innovation/digital executives — and hold credible conversations across both technical and business audience Experience building firm-specific business cases grounded in the firm's own operating metrics (utilization, leverage, realization, margin) and defending commercial terms through complex negotiations Background selling platform, API, cloud infrastructure, or emerging technology into enterprises evaluating a new category Genuine interest in AI and strong alignment with Anthropic's mission of responsible AI development A history of growing accounts meaningfully beyond the original engagement by proactively creating demand across new practice areas, regions, and use cases What will make you stand out Direct experience selling into Global SI’s or strategy consultancies, and fluency in how partner-led firms operate and measure success Experience as an early AE in a vertical or segment, where you helped build the sales motion rather than inherit it Background selling developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, or AI/ML tooling into traditional partner-led services firms The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $380,000 — $450,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. You'll develop and maintain our policy research strategy and lead the research behind it, to strengthen Anthropic's policy influence in Washington and around the world. You'll lead the research that backs up Anthropic's policy positions: deciding what evidence a position needs, working with Anthropic's research teams on what our own data can show, building partnerships with outside academics, think tanks and economists, and managing our growing body of commissioned research and economic impact work. You'll turn that research into analysis and materials our federal, state and international teams can use. You'll also run the cross-functional processes that take an open policy question to an agreed, evidence-backed position. As Anthropic's international footprint grows, you'll help the team scale its research and support for markets outside the US. You're likely a strong generalist who likes to build things and see them through, and who gets energy from turning complex research into something clear, organized and useful. You're curious and rigorous about evidence. You ask what would change a skeptic's mind, you can tell a strong study from a weak one, and you know when to bring in a subject matter expert. You have good judgment, you take initiative, and you're comfortable when the path isn't defined yet. You can run several research projects and outside partners at once while keeping track of how they connect. Key responsibilities Run policy development processes from open question to agreed position: frame the question, bring in the right experts from research, legal, communications and regional policy teams, work through disagreements, and get to a decision Develop research plans for priority issue areas: what evidence would strengthen or test a position, what Anthropic's own data and research can show, and where an outside partner is the right source Work with Anthropic's research teams, including economics research, Societal Impacts and the Frontier Red Team, to turn their findings into material policymakers can use Manage commissioned research from scoping through publication, and build partnerships with outside academics, think tanks, economists and consultancies Own economic impact reports and the narratives that go with them for markets around the world Anticipate emerging policy issues and work with internal experts to develop Anthropic's perspective and supporting materials before external pressure builds Scale the team's support for international markets: adapt strategy and materials for different governments, and build templates and processes so each new market is faster than the last Draft briefings, talking points and other materials on short timelines, coordinating with policy communications so messaging stays consistent Minimum qualifications A track record of driving cross-functional projects to a decision or finished product, including getting people with competing interests to agreement when you don't manage them Experience as a policy generalist across several issue areas, including designing and carrying out policy research and turning it into policy proposals or positions Ability to scope a research question, work with economists, academics and other experts to answer it, and judge the quality of their evidence and methods, for example through economic consulting, a policy research organization, or an in-house research team Excellent writing: you can turn complex technical or economic material into clear, concise memos, briefings and talking points for different audiences An understanding of how a company's commercial interests and its policy positions fit together Strong organization and project management, including running several projects and outside partners at once A record of working independently, taking ownership of problems, and driving next steps and deliverables without being prompted A collaborative, low-ego approach: you pitch in wherever the work needs you and share credit readily Interest in AI policy and alignment with Anthropic's mission to develop AI that is safe and beneficial Preferred qualifications 5+ years of professional experience in technology policy, public affairs, consulting or a related field Experience on an in-house technology policy team, in corporate public affairs, or in management or economic consulting, especially public sector or policy practices Experience managing outside vendors, research partners or commissioned studies, including economic impact studies A background in AI or technology policy Relationships with academics, think tanks or research organizations working on AI or technology policy Experience with international policy or supporting teams in multiple countries Training in economics or quantitative methods The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role At Anthropic, we're building AI systems that are safe, beneficial, and transformative. Our mission is to develop AI that benefits humanity, and we believe the most powerful capabilities emerge when we thoughtfully bridge the gap between research breakthroughs and real-world applications. About the role At Anthropic, we're building AI systems that are safe, beneficial, and transformative. Our mission is to develop AI that benefits humanity, and we believe the most powerful capabilities emerge when we thoughtfully bridge the gap between research breakthroughs and real-world applications. Frontier AI runs on datacenters, and the world is in the middle of the largest infrastructure buildout in a generation. The binding constraint on progress is increasingly everything around the chips: land, power, permits, equipment, and the design and construction of the buildings themselves. Bringing a single site online involves hundreds of people, thousands of components, and decisions that move enormous amounts of capital. Much of that work still runs on spreadsheets and handoffs. At Anthropic, we're building software and Claude-powered tools to help Anthropic scale out its compute, and we think there's an enormous opportunity to rethink how that work gets done. It's early, it's already having a real impact, and the engineers who join now will shape how one of the most consequential buildouts in the world gets done. We're looking for strong, versatile software engineers who love building for people doing real work in the physical world. You'll embed with the teams that source sites, design buildings, procure equipment, and manage construction, learn their work deeply, and build the tools and systems they rely on every day. Datacenter experience is a big plus, but what matters most is that you can earn the trust of expert operators, model a messy domain cleanly, and move fast. Responsibilities Build the core systems that track a datacenter's lifecycle (sites, designs, bills of materials, equipment, and construction progress) in one trusted, permissioned source of truth Embed with datacenter, energy, and supply chain teams to understand how the work actually gets done, find the critical path, and build the tools they reach for first Bring order to messy data by migrating and reconciling spreadsheets and legacy trackers, and integrate with the industry's tools, like construction management, scheduling, and engineering systems Design for trust: fine-grained permissions, auditability, and data quality for information that steers major investment decisions Ship early, iterate with users, and cut anything that doesn't help bring compute online sooner Partner with research to understand new model capabilities and share where they fall short in engineering-heavy, physical-world domains You may be a good fit if you Have 8+ years of experience building software, with strong full-stack skills and solid grounding in data modeling, APIs, and databases Have built software that teams in a physical-world industry depend on, such as datacenters, construction, energy, manufacturing, supply chain, or logistics Have a track record of zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments Are deeply user-centric: you learn the domain from the people doing the work and validate with them before over-investing Bring high agency and good judgment about what matters, and hold strong opinions loosely Communicate clearly across engineering, operations, and research, and care about the societal impacts of your work Strong candidates may also have Experience in datacenters (at a hyperscaler, colocation provider, operator, utility, or engineering firm), or in adjacent fields like construction, logistics, or legal Experience with the domain's tooling, such as construction management (Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud), scheduling (Primavera P6), PLM/BOM, ERP and procurement, CAD/BIM, DCIM, or power system studies A background in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, energy systems, or supply chain alongside a software career Experience building products with large language models Candidates need not have 100% of the skills listed above Formal certifications or education credentials Direct machine learning or AI research experience Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
