About the team The Compute Foundation group builds and operates the core systems that enable every Stripe engineer to ship code, configuration, and infrastructure changes safely and at high velocity. Embedded on the Imaging team, you will design, build, and distribute Linux machine images; manage host bootstrapping and OS-configuration systems; oversee OS packages and security-patching infrastructure; and provide platforms that empower service teams to safely run workloads across cloud providers and regions. What you’ll do Own the foundation of Stripe’s compute fleet: Stripe’s services rely on host infrastructure that boots reliably, receives accurate configurations, and operates safely. Your decisions will directly shape the base operating system, package ecosystems, security posture, and bootstrap behavior of Stripe’s fleet. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet. We have significant work ahead, which gives you the opportunity to do important work that expands access to the global economy. About the APAC Risk team The APAC Risk team helps Stripe launch and grow products responsibly across a diverse and rapidly evolving region. We work closely with global and regional partners across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Partnerships, and Risk to identify emerging risks, define practical controls, and make risk decisions easier to execute at scale. The team supports Stripe’s growth in APAC by combining deep regional context with strong analytical judgment. We assess how fraud patterns, payment methods, user behavior, market structures, and regulatory expectations vary across countries. We use those insights to build strategies that protect Stripe and the broader payments ecosystem while preserving a strong experience for legitimate users. What you’ll do As a Fraud Strategist on the APAC Risk team, you will be responsible for identifying and reducing transaction and merchant fraud across Stripe’s products and markets in the region. Work with users and external partners when needed to explain fraud risks, improve controls, and support a healthy payments ecosystem. Produce clear regional reporting for senior stakeholders, risk governance forums, and other internal audiences. Who you are We are looking for someone who is naturally curious, analytically strong, and comfortable making decisions in ambiguous situations. You investigate unusual patterns until you understand the underlying mechanism. You can turn data and domain context into a clear risk decision, then work across teams to make that decision operational. You understand that effective fraud strategy is not simply about reducing losses. It requires thoughtful tradeoffs between protection, growth, user experience, and operational complexity. You communicate those tradeoffs clearly and remain open to new evidence and feedback. Minimum requirements 7 or more years of relevant experience in fraud strategy, payments risk, financial services, fintech, trust and safety, data, or a related field. Experience investigating fraud or other risk patterns using account and transaction data. Strong analytical judgment and the ability to frame business decisions and tradeoffs through quantitative analysis. Intermediate SQL skills and experience applying SQL in a business environment. Experience defining metrics, assessing performance, and translating analysis into practical recommendations. Experience partnering with technical and operational teams such as Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, or Partnerships. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex risk issues to technical and nontechnical audiences. Sound decision making in ambiguous or time sensitive situations, with a willingness to learn and iterate as new evidence emerges. Empathy for legitimate users and an ability to balance scaled risk controls with user experience. Preferred qualifications Experience with transaction fraud, merchant fraud, account takeover, or abuse in an online payments environment. Experience working across APAC markets or with regional payment methods and local market structures. Advanced SQL skills or experience with quantitative tools such as Python, R, or Stata. Experience partnering with machine learning or Data Science teams on model features, rules, detection, or measurement. Experience assessing fraud risk for new products, payment methods, or country launches. Experience designing risk controls, monitoring frameworks, operational workflows, or policy. Who we are About Stripe Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career. About the team The Builder Experience Team makes it easier for Stripe’s product teams to build the right products, ship them with confidence, and help users realize value from them. In order to build a great product, product teams must develop a deep understanding of users, shape and test ideas, coordinate across functions, navigate launch requirements, identify risks, gather feedback, and manage products after launch. Today, many of these workflows are fragmented, manual, or built around processes and tools that predate recent advances in AI. We are a small, AI-native team reimagining how Stripe builds, ships, and ramps products. We experiment with new approaches across AI agents, automation, and process—and scale the ones that work. Our initial areas of focus include reinventing launch readiness from gates into guidelines, giving product teams richer and more timely context, and shortening the feedback loops between builders, users, Sales, and Support. Our users are Stripe’s product managers, engineers, designers, researchers – and we help to simplify the interactions with the cross-functional teams that help bring products to market. We work closely with teams including all of our business unit PMs, Product Operations, and Kai, Stripe’s internal AI platform. What you'll do We’re looking for product-minded engineers who want to rethink how products get built—not simply digitize existing processes. You’ll identify high-friction parts of Stripe’s product-development lifecycle, rapidly prototype new approaches, put them in the hands of real teams, and turn the strongest experiments into scaled solutions used by every product team at Stripe. This is a hands-on role with broad product and technical scope. You’ll work across the stack, combining traditional software engineering with emerging AI capabilities. You’ll operate in ambiguous problem spaces where the right product, interface, and technical architecture must be discovered together. You will: Design and build tools that help Stripe teams shape better products, ship with greater speed and confidence, and learn from users more quickly. Develop AI-native workflows and agents that synthesize context, automate repetitive work, surface risks, and help builders make better decisions. Own projects end to end: identify high-value problems, develop prototypes, test them with users, measure their impact, and scale the approaches that work. Work across backend systems, data sources, internal platforms, and polished user-facing experiences. Partner directly with product managers, engineers, designers, researchers, and cross-functional teams to understand how work happens in practice. Integrate with platforms such as Kai and Compass while identifying where new foundational capabilities are needed. Apply strong judgment to the use of sensitive internal context, including appropriate attention to security, privacy, permissions, and user trust. Help define how the team operates, including its technical foundations, product-development practices, and standards for experimentation and quality. Contribute to the team’s roadmap by identifying systemic sources of friction and opportunities to improve Stripe’s product-development lifecycle. Who you are We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Minimum requirements 5+ years of backend and/or full-stack software development experience Demonstrated technical experience leading the design and delivery of new product experiences from prototype to production Strong full-stack engineering skills, including experience building reliable backend services and polished user-facing product experiences. Ability to operate effectively in high-ambiguity environments: framing problems, experimenting & adjusting, making right-sized technical decisions, and creating an actionable path forward. Excellent cross-functional and cross-organizational collaboration skills, with the ability to align teams with different systems, priorities, and constraints. Strong engineering judgment around system reliability, operational excellence, security, and maintainability. A product-minded approach to engineering, with a focus on delivering meaningful outcomes for users and the business. Preferred qualifications Experience with Java, Ruby, and/or TypeScript. We care more about strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn than expertise in a particular language or framework. Experience delivering user facing products at Stripe (Payments, MM, RevSuite, etc), or experience delivering user facing products pre-dating Stripe. Experience working on 0→1 products or taking new capabilities from concept through launch and iteration.
