About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role We run one of the industry's largest AI compute fleets, spanning multiple cloud providers and datacenters, to train, research, and serve frontier AI models. Those fleets run on Kubernetes, and the Kubernetes Platform team owns the control plane that makes them work. We are operating at a scale where the defaults stop working. We own the scheduler and extend it to place topology-sensitive ML workloads across thousands of accelerators at once. We scale the control plane itself — apiserver, etcd, controllers — so it stays responsive as object counts and node counts grow by orders of magnitude. And we build the core cluster services every workload depends on, like service discovery, so they hold up under the same pressure. We make sure the control plane is fast, correct, and always available. Your work will directly determine whether Anthropic can keep reliably and safely training frontier models as our compute footprint continues to grow. Key responsibilities Own, operate, and extend the Kubernetes scheduler for Anthropic's accelerator fleets, including custom scheduling plugins and policies for gang scheduling, topology awareness, and preemption Scale the Kubernetes control plane (apiserver, etcd, controller-manager) to support clusters far beyond typical limits, and find the next bottleneck before it finds us Design, build, and operate core cluster services such as service discovery that every workload in the fleet depends on Build and maintain custom controllers, operators, and CRDs Partner with research, training, and inference to understand workload shapes and turn their requirements into platform capabilities Collaborate with cloud providers on required features and escalations Participate in on-call, lead incident response, and design processes (postmortems, runbooks, SLOs) that help the team avoid repeating failures Minimum qualifications Significant software engineering experience building and operating production distributed systems Proficiency in at least one systems-appropriate language (e.g., Go, Python, Rust, or C++) Deep, hands-on Kubernetes experience (well beyond "user of”) into scheduler, controllers, apiserver, or operating large multi-tenant clusters Demonstrated ability to debug complex issues across the stack, from API behavior down to node and network-level root causes A track record of designing for reliability, correctness, and clear failure semantics in systems other engineers depend on Strong written and verbal communication; comfort building consensus with internal stakeholders Preferred qualifications Experience with Kubernetes internals or contributions: kube-scheduler / scheduling framework, apiserver, etcd, client-go, controller-runtime, or similar Experience building or operating cluster schedulers or batch systems (e.g., Kueue, Volcano, Slurm, or in-house equivalents) Background scaling control planes or coordination systems (etcd, ZooKeeper, Consul, or large DNS/service-mesh deployments) Familiarity with ML infrastructure: GPUs, TPUs, or Trainium; gang scheduling; topology-aware placement; collective networking such as NCCL Experience with GCP and/or AWS, including GKE/EKS internals and Infrastructure as Code Low-level systems experience such as Linux kernel tuning, cgroups, or eBPF 10+ years of relevant industry experience, including time leading large, ambiguous infrastructure projects The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $320,000 — $485,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. About the Role Safeguards Engineering builds and operates the infrastructure that keeps Anthropic's AI systems safe in production — the classifiers, detection pipelines, evaluation platforms, and monitoring systems that sit between our models and the real world. That infrastructure needs to be not just correct, but reliable : when a safety-critical pipeline goes down or degrades, the consequences can be serious, and they can be invisible until someone looks closely. As a Technical Program Manager for Safeguards Infrastructure and Evals, you'll own the operational health and forward momentum of this stack. Your primary responsibility is driving reliability — owning the incident-response and post-mortem process, ensuring SLOs are defined and met in partnership with various teams, and making sure that when things go wrong, the right people know, the right actions get taken, and those actions actually get closed out. Alongside that ongoing operational rhythm, you'll coordinate the larger platform investments: migrations, eval-platform improvements, and the cross-team dependencies that connect them. This role sits at the intersection of operations and program management. It requires genuine technical depth — you need to understand how these systems work well enough to triage effectively, judge what's actually safety-critical versus what can wait, and have informed conversations with the engineers building and maintaining them. But the core of the job is keeping the machine running well and the work moving. What You'll Do: Own the Safeguards Engineering ops review - Drive the recurring cadence that keeps the team informed and coordinated: surfacing recent incidents and failures, bringing visibility to reliability trends, and making sure the right people are in the room when decisions need to be made. This is the heartbeat of how Safeguards Eng stays ahead of operational risk. Drive incident tracking and post-mortem execution - When incidents happen — and in this space, they happen regularly — you'll make sure they get followed through properly. That means tracking incidents across the organization (including those owned by partner teams like Inference), ensuring post-mortems get written, and most critically, making sure the action items that come out of them actually get done. Closing the loop on post-mortem actions is one of the highest-leverage things this role does. Establish and maintain SLOs with partner teams - Work with Safeguards Engineering teams and key partners — particularly Inference and Cloud Inference — to define service-level objectives for safety-critical pipelines. Then build the tracking and reporting that makes it possible to tell whether those SLOs are being met, and surface it when they're not. Maintain runbook quality and incident-ownership clarity - Safety-critical systems need clear playbooks for when things go wrong. Partner with engineering leads to keep runbooks accurate, actionable, and up to date — and ensure that ownership of incidents is unambiguous so that nothing falls through the cracks during an active incident. Drive platform migrations and infrastructure projects - Own the program management for the larger infrastructure work on the roadmap: migrating the infra from one platform to the next, moving from one incident platform to the next and from one cloud system monitoring to another, and other migrations as they come. These are cross-team efforts with real dependencies — your job is to keep them sequenced, on track, and connected to the teams that need them. Coordinate evals platform improvements - Partner with the evals engineering team to drive improvements to the evaluation platform — including self-serve capabilities and the broader eval factory infrastructure. Help scope the work, track dependencies on other Safeguards systems, and make sure the evals platform is keeping pace with the team's needs. You might be a good fit if you: Have solid technical program management experience, particularly in operational or infrastructure-heavy environments — you're comfortable owning a mix of ongoing operational cadences and discrete project work simultaneously. Understand how production ML systems work well enough to triage incidents intelligently and have substantive conversations with engineers about what's going wrong and why — you don't need to write the code, but you need to follow the technical thread. Are energized by closing loops. Post-mortem action items that never get done, SLOs that no one checks, runbooks that go stale — these things bother you, and you know how to build the processes and follow-ups that fix them. Can work effectively across team boundaries — comfortable coordinating with partner teams (like Inference) where you don't have direct authority, and skilled at keeping shared work moving through influence and clear communication. Thrive in environments where the work shifts between "keep the lights on" and "build something new" — and can context-switch between incident follow-ups and longer-horizon platform projects without dropping either. Have experience with or strong interest in AI safety — you understand why the reliability of a safety-critical pipeline is a different kind of problem than the reliability of a product feature, and that distinction motivates you. Strong candidates may also: Have experience with SRE practices, incident management frameworks, or on-call operations at scale. Have worked on or with evaluation infrastructure for ML systems — understanding how evals get designed, run, and interpreted. Have experience driving infrastructure migrations in complex, multi-team environments — particularly where the migration touches operational systems that can't go offline. Be familiar with monitoring and alerting tooling (PagerDuty, Datadog, or equivalents) and the operational culture around them. Deadline to apply: None, applications will be received on a rolling basis. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. About the Team The Consumer Devices team is building a new generation of AI-native experiences that bring OpenAI’s technology closer to people throughout their day. We are exploring how AI can become deeply integrated into the devices people already use—understanding context, helping users accomplish tasks, coordinating across apps and services, and making use of capabilities that are uniquely available on the device. Our work spans software, devices, platform technologies, and strategic partnerships. We operate as a highly collaborative, fast-moving team focused on turning ambitious ideas into reliable products that can reach people at significant scale. About the Role As an Android Systems Engineer , you will help define and build the Android platform capabilities behind the next generation of AI-powered consumer experiences. This is not a traditional application-only Android role. You will work across the Android stack, using system-level APIs, device capabilities, platform integrations, and OEM-specific functionality to create experiences that would be difficult or impossible to build as a conventional mobile application. You will help determine what becomes possible when an AI assistant is deeply integrated with a mobile device: how it understands what is happening, interacts naturally with the user, connects across apps and services, and helps complete multi-step tasks. You will work closely with product, design, AI, backend, platform, and external device partners to take new concepts from prototype to production. The role requires strong technical judgment, product intuition, and comfort navigating areas where the platform, APIs, and product patterns are still evolving. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of four days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. In this role, you will: Build deeply integrated Android experiences: Design and implement product experiences that take advantage of Android platform capabilities. Work across the Android platform: Develop against Android framework and system APIs, system services, lifecycle and background execution primitives, inter-process communication, permissions, notifications, intents, and other platform capabilities. Unlock device capabilities: Identify and use capabilities such as audio, camera, sensors, connectivity, location, notifications, credentials, and other device signals to enable useful, context-aware AI experiences. Build agentic mobile experiences: Develop systems that allow AI-powered experiences to help users complete multi-step tasks and coordinate actions across applications, services, and device functionality. Create scalable abstractions: Turn device-specific capabilities into well-designed platform layers and reusable components that can support multiple Android devices, OEMs, form factors, and product experiences. Prototype new interaction models: Rapidly explore new Android capabilities, APIs, and device features to understand what is technically possible and help shape product direction. Own experiences end to end: Take ideas from early technical exploration through architecture, implementation, testing, launch, and iteration in production. Build for reliability and performance: Ensure experiences remain fast, power-efficient, resilient, and reliable across a diverse Android device ecosystem. Design for privacy and security: Carefully handle permissions, user data, device access, authentication, and system capabilities while maintaining clear user control and trust. Partner across disciplines: Work closely with product, design, research, backend, AI, systems, and partner engineering teams to turn emerging AI capabilities into cohesive consumer experiences. Help define the future platform: Stay current with new Android releases, APIs, device capabilities, and ecosystem developments, and use that knowledge to identify opportunities for entirely new product experiences. You might thrive in this role if you: Have deep experience building and shipping high-quality Android software used by real customers. Have strong knowledge of the Android platform beyond UI and application development, including framework APIs, system services, process and application lifecycle, permissions, IPC, background execution, and device capabilities. Are highly proficient in Kotlin and/or Java and comfortable working across a large Android codebase. Have experience working with AOSP, Android framework internals, system applications, privileged APIs, device software, or OEM-specific Android integrations. Have experience integrating software with hardware or device capabilities and enjoy debugging problems that cross application, operating-system, and device boundaries. Understand the realities of building across the Android ecosystem, including OS versions, device configurations, OEM customizations, permissions, power management, and platform fragmentation. Care deeply about product quality and user experience, not just technical correctness. Think creatively about what new platform capabilities make possible and enjoy turning emerging technology into intuitive consumer experiences. Thrive in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments where the right technical and product approach is not obvious at the outset. Take ownership of problems, develop strong points of view, and can independently drive work from exploration through production. Enjoy 0→1 product development and are energized by building experiences for which established patterns may not yet exist. Stay current with new Android technologies, APIs, operating-system capabilities, and broader developments across the mobile ecosystem. Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external platform or device partners. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues. About the role The Network Security team's remit is to secure Anthropic's networks across our cloud providers and our bare-metal AI data centers. We own egress and ingress controls, network segmentation, private connectivity between environments, and encryption in transit. We design, build, and maintain these controls, and we write the software that deploys, enforces, and monitors them. These controls protect our model weights, customer data, and internal assets. We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead this team. Anthropic is adding data center sites and cloud regions quickly, and the team will grow with that work. In this role you will set the team's charter, practices, and priorities. You will partner with our infrastructure networking, cluster, and data center teams so security is built into network designs from the start. The goal is secure-by-default networking that lets research and product teams use compute in any environment without slowing them down. Key responsibilities We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a Network Security Engineering team in executing across critical initiatives including, but not limited to: Own the network security roadmap: threat model from the management plane through Kubernetes and cloud interconnects, decide what to build, and deliver it Be able to reason about the design and implementation of default-deny ingress and egress, segmentation between research, training, and production, private connectivity, and mTLS/service identity across every environment Ship these as secure-by-default primitives so new clusters, VPCs, and data center links inherit the right boundaries without security on the critical path Join networking, cluster, and data center teams at design time so topology, routing, and firewall decisions carry our invariants from day one Build visibility into traffic and boundary drift, with detection for exfiltration paths and automated remediation where safe Own the network security evidence for our security goals and compliance: the invariants hold, and you can prove it Hire, grow, and retain senior security software engineers; own their career development, and set the practices the team runs on as it scales Minimum Requirements: 8+ years of front line management experience Low ego, high empathy; has built diverse teams and has former reports who would work for them again Experience managing infrastructure or security engineering teams, including hiring, developing, and managing senior and staff engineers Has grown engineers into staff or lead roles, and has made the call to move someone out when coaching didn't work Kept a team intact and delivering through reorgs, charter changes, or leadership turnover Experience owning a security or infrastructure domain end to end: setting multi-year strategy, delivering year-long cross-organizational work with little direction, and answering to executives for its risk and tradeoffs Scaled a team and its systems together through hypergrowth, where last quarter's architecture was already too small Hands-on network security engineering in cloud and/or on-prem environments: VPC design, interconnects, private service connectivity, cloud firewall policy, egress control, physical segmentation, and out-of-band/management-plane security Threat modeling and risk assessment for networked systems, with the judgment to tell which controls reduce risk and which just look good on a diagram Secured Kubernetes networking at scale, or worked in high-assurance environments where controls had to be evidenced, not just deployed Preferred Qualifications: Built or rebuilt a hiring loop and held the bar while adding headcount quickly Exposure to large-scale distributed training and what it demands of a network Solved end-to-end networking problems directly with internal users, cloud account teams, and hardware or colo vendors Has taken infrastructure from zero to one and then to maturity: built the first version where nothing existed, then run and hardened it into a system other teams depend on at production-network reliability Pragmatic and steady: cares about unblocking research and product as much as a clean architecture, and brings patience and judgment to opinionated senior engineers Clear and persuasive communicator in writing and in person Familiar with AI security and safety concepts The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $405,000 — $485,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed.
